Why A Central Vacuum?
NAHB
projects 50% of new homes will be built with a central
vacuum unit by the year 2012. The U.S. market for central
vacuums grew 12% in 2004 to $110 million No other technology cleans as efficiently and effectively as
a central cleaning system. It is by far the best choice in
making your home healthier and cleaner. In addition to the
trusty broom and dustpan, many home owners use a small
vacuum for the stairs and the car, an upright for the
carpeting, and a shop vacuum for the garage. They all need
filters, belts and periodic maintenance or replacement. It's
hard to believe that a central vacuum could replace most of
these cleaning tools. Although normally associated with new
construction and expensive homes, central vacuum systems can
be installed in most existing homes and are actually quite
economical. They add resale value to your home, so a central
vacuum is an investment that will pay for itself.

Private Labels -
Consumer Alert When shopping or searching for a central vacuum unit you should be aware of
vacuum units that are private labeled. A private labeled vacuum unit is
basically a vacuum unit that someone puts a sticker on and tries to push very hard due to
a higher profit margin. For example, this is the
equivalent of us taking a sticker and slapping it on any vacuum,
making "Super Sucker 2000", "Tony's Vac",
"Empire Vacuum" or some other fictitious name appear to be
a real company. There are a variety of problems that come with a
private labeled unit ranging from warranty issues, difficulty with
service, companies going out of business etc. You should ALWAYS deal
with a real central vacuum company, a company that you can contact,
not a company that simply applied their name to a vacuum...

Genuine Accessories & Attachment Kits
Many things have been
said about the quality of Genuine accessories and attachment kits,
much of which is false. Many online vendors push these kits and
accessories due to the the name alone, not because they can stand
behind the quality of the product. More than 97% of central companies
do not manufacture their own accessories and more often then not are
manufactured in a plant over seas. There are two main reasons why
these Genuine accessories get pushed so hard by many online vendors.
First,.. name recognition. If you are shopping for central vacuum
accessories or attachments there is a very good chance you are unaware
of what is available on the market, making name recognition very
important. Second,.. profit margin. The higher the quality of product,
the lower the profit margin is for the company. This leads to some
companies pushing "Genuine Attachment Kits", with the name recognition
and profit margin it is a win-win situation for the VENDOR ONLY...

The
Truth About Cyclonic With
a cyclonic unit, the dirty air is sucked into the vacuum
unit and whirls around in a fashion similar to a cyclone or
tornado, wherein the heavier dirt falls to the bottom into a
bucket and the lighter dirt particles are carried through
the motor, fan blades, fan chamber and armature, then
exhausted outside the home.
Also, over filling the unit will cause very serious motor
failure or problems. You must empty the canister often, more
than others. You can't let it go further than 3/4 full or
else the dirt will get into the motor causing your motor to
burn out. Before you know it 6 months has gone by and you
find out your motor has seized and failed. This is a
frequent problem, and is NOT covered under warranty. All
this is noted in the small print of all central vacuum
warranties. This is considered abuse and neglect, and
therefore not covered...

Consumer Reports & Vacuums
Giving ratings or judgments on a item that has yet to build a proven
track record just does not make sense. These ratings are based on name
recognition and price. If a vacuum has been on the market for a couple
of months or less how can you properly rate it? I will give you a
perfect example of this. The Hoover Windtunnel upright vacuum is
consistently rated "Best Buy" in Consumer Reports but yet is the most
commonly repaired vacuum we have. This goes to show that the ratings
should be left to experienced experts in the vacuum industry...
