A Brief History of SEBO Canister Vacuums
Since nearly the beginning of their company, Sebo has been producing high-quality canister vacuums. In this post, we'll explore the history of Sebo canister vacuum cleaners from past to present and point out some interesting facts about these powerhouse machines.
In 1919, when Sebo was just a small company from Germany, they began producing high-quality canister vacuums. Since the beginning of their production in 1919 these vacuums have been known to be long lasting and durable. The German appliances were built with great care and designed for efficiency.
In the mid-1930s Sebo vacuum cleaners came to America thanks to a trade agreement between Germany and the United States. For many years after that first introduction into the American household, these vacuums continued to be made of all-metal construction with no plastic used at all! This resulted in products that had extremely powerful suction power, featured an easy-to-manage hose system, and were incredibly lightweight making them easy for anyone to use.
It wasn't until 1980 that Sebo vacuums were created using plastic. This first model, the SE 2100, not only was built with all-metal construction but also used the rotating brush system which was so popular at this time. The SE 2100 featured lightweight steel handlebars and a toolset completely redesigned for more durability.
While other vacuum companies began to experiment with their canister-style systems Sebo continued perfecting their rotary brush design until 1987 when they released the SE 3 liter "Universalfach". This machine became one of their most successful models ever thanks not only to its compact lightweight design but also because of its ability to use both a retractable cord and self-sealing bags. Thanks to these features Sebo vacuums were easier to use and maintain.
In 1990 Sebo created SEBO Automatic which used an electronic suction control that allowed the machine to be more energy efficient.
In 1999 the German Tool Company purchased the rights for Sebo vacuum cleaners from Electrolux, who had been producing them since 1970.
